Platform Engineer

[Company Name] is looking for a Platform Engineer to build and maintain the internal developer platform that empowers our engineering teams to ship software faster and more reliably. You will design self-service infrastructure, developer tooling, and deployment pipelines that reduce friction and improve developer experience across the organization. This role blends infrastructure expertise with a product mindset -- your users are your fellow engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build internal developer platform capabilities including self-service infrastructure provisioning, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment workflows
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Pulumi, or Crossplane
  • Build and improve CI/CD systems that enable fast, safe, and reliable deployments
  • Create standardized templates, golden paths, and scaffolding tools that reduce boilerplate for development teams
  • Implement observability standards including logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting across services
  • Manage Kubernetes clusters and container orchestration platforms for production workloads
  • Partner with engineering teams to understand pain points and prioritize platform improvements

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure roles
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes administration, Helm charts, and container orchestration
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation)
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, or Jenkins)
  • Solid knowledge of at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Programming ability in one or more of: Go, Python, TypeScript, or Bash
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals: DNS, load balancing, service mesh, ingress controllers
  • Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or ELK stack)

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience building internal developer portals (Backstage, Port, or custom solutions)
  • Familiarity with GitOps practices and tools (ArgoCD, Flux)
  • Knowledge of service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd, or Cilium)
  • Experience with cost optimization and FinOps for cloud infrastructure
  • Background in security hardening for cloud and container environments
