Database Administrator (DBA)

[Company Name] is looking for a Database Administrator to own the reliability, performance, and security of our production database infrastructure. You will design backup and recovery strategies, tune queries for optimal throughput, and collaborate with engineering teams to support rapidly growing data volumes. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on keeping mission-critical systems running smoothly around the clock.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain relational and NoSQL database systems in production environments
  • Monitor database performance metrics and proactively tune queries, indexes, and configurations
  • Design and test backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies
  • Implement and enforce database security policies including access control and encryption at rest
  • Collaborate with development teams on schema design, data migrations, and query optimization
  • Automate routine database operations using scripts and infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Plan and execute database version upgrades and patching with minimal downtime

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience administering production database systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server)
  • Strong knowledge of SQL query optimization, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis
  • Experience with database replication, clustering, and failover architectures
  • Proficiency in backup and recovery procedures including point-in-time recovery
  • Understanding of database security best practices including role-based access control and encryption
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana, or pgMonitor
  • Experience with Linux system administration and shell scripting
  • Knowledge of capacity planning and storage management

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with cloud-managed database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL)
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB
  • Knowledge of database infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or Ansible
  • Experience with data warehousing solutions like Snowflake or BigQuery
  • Relevant certifications (Oracle OCP, AWS Database Specialty, or Microsoft Azure DBA)
