Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team at a Series B Fintech Startup in New York City (Hybrid). The ideal candidate will be responsible for building and scaling core payment and financial infrastructure systems. This role involves working on high-throughput APIs and distributed services that power mission-critical workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript to ensure robust performance and reliability.
• Build and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs that facilitate seamless integration and data exchange.
• Collaborate closely with product and frontend teams to align backend development with overall project goals and user needs.
• Optimize the performance and reliability of existing systems to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.
• Contribute to system architecture and make informed technical decisions that guide the development process.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of backend development experience, demonstrating a strong foundation in software engineering principles.
• Proven expertise in Node.js and TypeScript, showcasing the ability to develop high-quality backend solutions.
• Experience with distributed systems and microservices, indicating a capacity to work in complex, scalable environments.
• Familiarity with AWS and cloud-native architectures, enabling effective deployment and management of applications in the cloud.
• A strong understanding of databases, with a preference for experience in Postgres.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the fintech sector or similar industries, providing insight into the unique challenges and requirements of financial applications.
• Knowledge of additional programming languages or frameworks that complement backend development.
